Picture of the Month, December 2003 ![]() On the picture above is protoype tram no. 161 with litra E3 in the loop at Oppsal, ready for departure towards Avløs. The tram was put into service on 30th June 1937 and was transferred to Bærumsbanen on 28th March 1953. It was discarded on 29th October 1967 and scrapped on 15. October 1970. Together with the brother, no. 162, it got electrical equipment from AEG. These two prototypes had many problems, and the technical equipment proved to be unreliable. The tramcars were difficult to drive, and many faults occured. Thus they were unpopular and were not used much. In 1950 (no. 162) and 1953 (no. 161), they were rebuilt with three frontal lights, and were at the same time transferred to Bærumsbanen. They were used here on Lilleaker-Østensjøbanen until it was split in 1967. They were mostly used on peek hour trips and spent a lot of time in the workshop. Around 1967-70, it was a plan to rebuilt them to contactor controlling, but this was never done. They were the last goldfishes in service that didn't got light tubes. The tramcars were discarded in 1967 and scrapped during the big tramway strike in 1970. Photo: LTF Archive. |
