Picture of the Month, September 2001 ![]() In the 50's, SS tramcar no. 83 was chosen as a test car, and it was rebuilt to a unidirectional car with entrance behind and exit in the front, and with a sitting conductor. The coupé doors were removed, and the door openings were made wider. The project wasn't successful. The body became loose-jointed, because the frame around the coupé door used to work as a part of the body construction. Tramcar no. 83 was delivered to Kristiania Sporveisselskab in 1913, built by Falkenried with electrical equipment from AS Norsk Siemens-Schuckert. The car had two axles and a wooden body covered by plates. It was 10,47 metres long, 2,00 metres wide, weighted 13,5 metric tons and producted an effect of 2x 42 kW. It was discarded on November 4th, 1962, but the body served for several years as a workmen's hut, and it was scrapped on April 23rd, 1984. Photo: LTF Archive. |
