Picture of the Month, November 2000 ![]() On the picture above is Ekebergbanen's "flatiron tramcar" no. 1010 at Gamlebyen close to Geita bru. The trams 1006-1012 (the old number series, because the numbers were reused) were delivered in 1920-21. These bidirectional cars were built by Skabo. The electric equipment and the motors (type GTM4) came from NEBB. The tramcar was 14,9 m long, 2,1 m wide, weighted 26,5 tons, and had 38 seats and 35 standing places. The viking ship must be said to be the first low-floor tramcar with its low-floor entrance. No. 1010 was built in 1921. After it was discarded in the end of the 40's, parts were used to built no. 1021, which was completed in 1950. The unidirection tramcar no. 1021 was discarded in 1974. Two viking ships are preserved by LTF, no. 1001 and no. 1007. The last one is of the same kind as no. 1010 and is now preserved at Vinterbro (outside Oslo). Photo: LTF Archive. |
