Picture of the Month, August 2000 ![]() On the picture is T class metrocar no. 1 in its first livery at Sørbyhaugen towards Avløs between 1960 and 1970. The two T class metrocars were prototypes for the new metrocars. They were built in 1958-59 and were built by Strømmens Værksted and NEBB on their own account to achieve experience in building metrocars for Oslo. The cars were built after model of metrocars from Central Europe, had an effect of 4x 75 kW, were 17,0 metres long, weighted 26,500 kilograms and had two driver's cabins. The cars were tested on the Lambertseter line and the Østensjø line in 1959-60. The first livery was silver grey with a blue line along the side. Car no. 1 was taken over by Oslo Sporveier in February 1960, and car no. 2 in June the same year. The cars had many defects and were put into service on December 1st, 1960, after being rebuilt. The cars were haunted by errors and were probably more inside the workshop than out in service. Bærumsbanen took over the cars on May 25th, 1963. The cars were test repainted, where one was painted "metro red" and the other "Kolsås line blue". In 1970, both cars were painted blue and got the numbers 451 and 452. Shortly before they got the numbers 501 and 502, but these numbers were changed because Holmenkollbanen already had used these numbers on their 500 class cars. The T class cars were hardly used after 1982. They were taken out of service in 1987 and 1993. No. 451 was scrapped in 1994. No. 452 is also scrapped. Photo: LTF Archive. |
