Picture of the Month, December 1999 ![]() On the picture is Gold fish 201, a B1 class tramcar, at Jar on the Kolsåsbane on its way to Avløs. The picture is taken after the tramcar was rebuilt to an one-man tramcar in the first half of the 70's and before it collided with the C metrocar train 410 and 411 at Lysakerelven on the 5th of October, 1981. After the collision 201 was stored at Avløs and scrapped during the autumn 1982. The Gold fishes body cosisted of a self-supported construction of aluminium. Therefore, the tramcars were very light, which involved low centre of gravity, good driving characteristics and quite high top speed. In 1937, the first six Gold fishes were delivered, and they were prototypes (no. 158-163). From this, one chose to build to main series, on city class (the E class cars, no. 164-183) and one suburb line class (the B class cars, no. 184-203). The B class cars, which is shown on this picture with 201, were built by Strømmens Værksted and had electrical equipment from Vickers. The motors came from ELIN. This serie was equipped with electropneumatic steering power controller. The B class cars got equipment for multiple driving in the middle of the 50's. Photo: LTF Archive. |
